Topics in Buddhist Psychology and Engaged Buddhism
Lopon Dorje Khandro (Dr. Lourdes Arguelles) will teach a course on Topics in Buddhist Psychology and Engaged Buddhism beginning on February 23rd (English) and on March 2nd (Spanish). In the first part of the course, Lopon-la will focus on the practical relevance that Buddhist teachings on psychology and especially those on the nature of mind can have for positively conducting our everyday lives including our Dharma practice in turbulent times. In the second part of the course, she will teach about Dharmic psychological frameworks and practices currently being utilized in Buddhist inspired end of life and palliative care, therapeutic interventions, prison ministry, ecological and animal rights activism, social justice work, and humanitarian relief .Lopon-la will also discuss the rewards as well as the dangers of traversing the path of engaged Buddhism in which routinely practitioners go into very difficult situations in order to directly and compassionately help other sentient beings and then return to periods of meditative practice seeking to provide a balance for one another. Each session will be preceded by a brief Shamatha meditation and followed by mantric and Tonglen practices.
